New Suburb: Old Garden Style!

Hi everybody, so to start this blog off I have decided to first look at the new suburb that I've just moved into.. Hawthorn East! You see, I grew up in Caulfield and whilst I have moved around a bit - it has always been around that area. So to me as soon as I drove through it, it was clear that Hawthorn East is a much older and more 'authentic' Melbourne. So many of the streets are thin (you know? Just wide enough to barely squeeze a car through when others are parked nearby?) and with all the houses being of what I like to call the Melbourne Edwardian style, as they are noticeably different from the typical Edwardian period found in England and whatnot.

As I say up top, it is my aim and goal to really show the most recognisable and common garden styles of this suburb, and then perhaps compare them to where I grew up. Along the way I will be speaking to residents of these gardens and asking them some questions about the history and future of their household gardens. With my intermediate knowledge of gardening I will attempt to offer some advice where I can - and in the process I think I will learn a lot about the hobby gardeners out there.

Anyway, onto the first house!
